Help:Page Policy
From Governance Wiki
Each article on Giki (Government Wiki) should contain information on a government organization. Giki suggests the following guidelines in naming your page:
- Each government organization is identified uniquely by a geographical name and organization name. See Example 1.
- Each page should have one or more relevant categories.
- Depending on what category of information about the organization your document contains, you may want to add a categoryName prefix. See Example 4
Contents |
[edit] Example 1
The Department of Education of New York State is officially titled New York State Education Department. Use official names whenever possible. It is also useful to check Wikipedia for an existing article on the government agency or department, and using that name. This makes it easier to use the {{Also on Wikipedia}} template to link to that encyclopedia article.
[edit] Example 2
To resolve a geographical name:
- A government organization with nation-wide scope would have its geographical name identified by countryname
- The geographical name for the Government of France would be named as France: (countryname)
- A government organization with state-wide scope would have its geographical name identified by statename
- The geographical name for the Government of California would be named as California unless there were more than one California in which case it would become California (US state): (countryname_statename)
- A government organization with city or town-wide scope would have its geographical name identified as townname
- The geographical name for the Government of San Francisco would be San Francisco, unless there were more than one San Francisco in which case it would become San Francisco, California or even San Francisco, California, USA as needed. Redirects should be used to enable people to easily find unique names without duplicating content. For example, Seattle redirects to Seattle, Washington automatically: (countryname_statename_villageOrTownname)
[edit] Example 3
The organization name simply states its name.
- For example: New York State Education Department or Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China.
[edit] Example 4
Depending on what category of information about the organization your document contains, you may want to add a categoryName suffix to the geographicalRegionName_DepartmentName to create a subpage. For example:
- The article about the Mission of the Department of Education of the State of New York would be named as New York State Education Department/Mission: (categoryName_geographicalRegionName_DepartmentName)
- There is also a tabs template available for article creation that breaks the content up into up to 8 logical sections. See the description on how to use that template.
These examples will evolve as we grow. Please feel free to experiment.
